Theme: Summer (sun; water; summer clothes; bugs), Father’s Day
Social/Emotional Development reciprocal games (peek-a-boo, pat-a-cake, ride a horsey, etc…); scarf play; hide-and-seek in the tent; dress up with hats and sunglasses
Oral/Sign Language Encouraging various sounds/words through play; ASL signs for “more”, “milk”, “hello”, and “please”; singing songs (Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, ABC’s etc.)
Literacy Books about Summer, water, and Summer activities; animal puppets will “read” stories to the children; art activities will reinforce literacy concepts (for example, after reading a story about water, the children will paint on a droplet shape with finger paints and/or baby food
Fine Motor/Sensory picking up small objects/foods (pincer grasp), self feeding using spoon; painting with fingers; transferring objects from one hand to another; large puzzles and toys that teach “put in” and “knock it down”; and sensory play –rough/soft textures, warm/cold
Gross Motor Practice rolling, crawling, pulling up, sitting up, and clapping through adult encouragement/stimulation and the introduction of novel toys/items. Outdoor time as weather permits; playing with water in bottles and shallow bowls, strolling, swinging, laying on blankets, using walkers and excersaucers outside, etc.
Diversity Listening to multicultural music, learning Spanish words for common objects/ activities (milk, eat, sleep, play, etc…), celebrating Father’s Day and classmates birthdays
Health/Safety Introducing new foods (w/ parent permission), practice drinking from a cup w/ water; “gentle touches” with friends vs. grabbing/scratching/pulling hair; washing hands before and after meals and after diapering, learning to wear hat/sunscreen in warm weather.
